Laps for learning

We walked the track outside to raise money for technology. It was a bit breezy that day, but my kiddos did really good with their walk. March 14, 2014

Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration

We have celebrated Dr. Seuss birthday with a special teacher coming to read a book called, "Bartholomew and the Oobleeck." After the story Mrs. Pack-Brown explore what Oobleeck feels like. Some of them loved it and some thought it was gross. It was pretty cool! We also celebrated his birthday with a parade of "Fox and Socks." The students made the mask and walked the hallways with their disguise. Here are some pictures from that day.

Principal Appreciation Day

Look at our little kindergarten lions. During principal appreciation day the students made a face mask for the school wide parade. We are fortunate to have such a great principal to recognize. Here are some pictures from the parade. This day was February 7, 2014.

100th Day of School

It has been a little while since I've posted. A lot has happened. We have celebrated 100 days of school!! That means my students are 100 days smarter. Here are some pictures of our celebration with snacks. Each student was able to count 10 items of snacks out to put in a Baggie until it was 100. They were excited to do this and eat it.

New Year with New Skills

I am sorry that it has been so long since I posted on the blog. A lot has happened since the last post. We celebrated Christmas, lost a boy student to another school, but gained a little girl, Akiva. We are happy to have another girl in our boy filled classroom.
With the new year of school comes new skills to be learned and taught. We are working on blending sounds together to create words. We are writing sentences making sure there is a capital letter that begins our sentence, spacing between words, and a punctuation mark at the end of the sentence. We are also learning to find the key details in a story so we can better understand what the author is trying to tell us. We are distinguishing between nonfiction and fiction texts. In math we are recognizing the teen numbers, counting to 100 by ones, fives, and tens, and adding and subtracting numbers. Sheew that's a lot of things we are learning in kindergarten, but it will prepare us for first grade.
Please help your child daily with these skills so they are receiving more practice.
Pictures below are from our Christmas gift exchange and counting daily to 100.

Week in kindergarten!

We had our very first snow day this week!  I enjoyed it and I know the students did. We talked about what everyone did while they were out and most everyone said sleep, play video games, and watch tv. Sounds like they needed a break! This week we are finishing up addition sentences. We will test over out skill tomorrow, Friday December 13. We are also practicing everyday on counting to 100. My goal is that every student counts to 100 before first grade. Please work with your child on this so that we can make our goal!
In reading we are focusing on text features, characters, settings, and retelling the events of a story.
Next week is a four day week with a half day on Friday. Our Christmas party is Friday, December 20 at 8:30. We will have a Christmas gift swap. Please don't forget your gift so you can swap. Maximum limit of $3.00. School will be dismissed at 10:40.
I enjoy teaching your children every day. Please ask your child what they have learned today.
Here are pictures of how we count to 100  every morning.

Happy Thanksgiving

This was a short week of learning, but we were very busy during those two days at school. I read two thanksgiving stories to the students and we had a group discussion over the stories and applied our life stories with the reading. We gathered around in a big circle and discussed what each person was going to have on Thanksgiving Day and who they were celebrating the day with. The student responses were so sweet and funny at times. To sum it up, I was invited to all dinners and so was the rest of the class. But not to worry with running out of food, because several students mentioned that they were going to have a thousand turkeys. Haha. Plenty for everyone. We also did writing pieces of who they were thankful for and drawings of what their Thanksgiving dinner would look like. I hope you enjoy reading them because they tried very hard to do a good job.
I enjoy getting to teach to these children everyday. Some days can be challenging, but I would not change it for anything. I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving!
